Rehabilitation of masonry and the application of classic Venetian Marmorino plaster. In the case of restoration of original marmorino surfaces, the plaster is strictly made using the same methodology as the original construction. The plastered surfaces of a building's internal or external walls should be breathable; this allows the masonry to breath and dry more quickly while maintaining a constant climate inside and avoiding thermal instability. The calcium carbonate within marmorino plaster is an excellent insulator, indeed, environments surrounded by calcium carbonate do not produce mildew or lichen. To name a few: from the internationally renowned Egyptian pyramids, or to the less-known Tuscan hamlet of Colonnata where they produce and mature lard in vast marble basins — even the legendary Taj Mahal was built with calcium carbonate plaster. An egg shell, that superlative protective natural shell, is also composed of calcium carbonate. With Intonaco Marmorino Veneziano your home can become a truly healthy environment, isolated from moisture. Venetian plaster surfaces also reflect a pleasant natural light and have a striking aesthetic impact compared with other types of finishes. Furthermore, the patina finish makes it even more appreciable, with a timeless beauty. Moreover, marmorino surfaces are completely washable, a thorough cleaning can returned them to their original splendour and this operation is usually carried out every 10-15 years. The marbled surfaces lend themselves to creative manipulation and effects of every kind, enabling the opportunity to apply overhanging layers, being able to create cornices, bevels and three-dimensional effects, or stucco decorations in full antique style. The colours mixed into marmorino are earth colours or natural pigments, no artificial chemicals are added to this plaster, respecting the nature of this breathable, healthy and environmentally friendly material.
Surfaces plastered with lime and hemp have a high coefficient for thermal insulation. The Po Valley was once the cradle Italian hemp cultivation, a plant of various uses and qualities. From ancient times, especially in the Serenissima epoch, ropes or sails of all venetian boats were made from these strong fibres. Moreover, hemp was also used for clothes, hats and other items woven from this soft, breathable and comfortable material, yet also ideal for thermal regulation. Since hemp hurd (shive) is extracted as a by-product; this is the material mixed into thermal plaster aggregates. This ingredient is added to the ground Marmorino Veneziano to obtain a mixture that is employed as a plaster to help rectify the thermal-regulation of residential dwellings. The thermal insulation properties of this material are truly surprising, reaching an isolation of 0.09 transmittance. What is proposed is not the usual thermal coat which consists of harmful materials (and never a complete solution for mildew on walls), but rather a lime plaster with excellent thermal insulation properties and yet, at the same time, fully breathable. The thermal plaster will be laid onto the walls to a minimum of about 3 cm and then subsequent layers are built up one-by-one until the final smoothing of the wall, the end result will be a magnificent Venetian Marmorino finish, but with the additional thermal insulation capacity far superior to standard plaster. The lower-cost of heating is assured, as well as the certainty of living in an altogether more healthier environment.
Design and construction in the decorative 18th century Venetian stucco style. The project to redecorate the room will be designed by our master plasterer according to the classical cannon, taking into consideration the proportions and characteristics of the specific environment. The plasterer will then create the stucco decoration using traditional Marmorino Veneziano, with a far higher-quality result than more commercial decorations of pre-mounted plaster moulds, glue and acrylic paints. It will be far more durable and restorable over time. The underlying plaster layers are constructed thickly, thus able to support any type of decoration, even within bathrooms and inside showers, as this type of plasterwork is highly resistant and long-lasting, coping well with water and does not discolour at all if waxed. Even if dents do occur over time, repairation is a piece of cake. The harmonious effect of this stucco decoration is due to the wise employment of the same natural materials used in the 18th century, with colours and earth pigments which are very soft and well balanced.
Restoration work carried out on Venetian marmorino surfaces such as stucco, interior walls, exterior facades, cornices and friezes, baseboards, faux marble and fresco decorations. First, one of our experts will carry out a study of the surfaces to be worked upon through non-intrusive testing techniques, to identify the types of stratification rendered over time and in order to plan the restoration project. The study and initial test can also be limited to preparing an economic assessment and artistic history of the building's evolution where only a preliminary estimate is necessary. Following this we will provide an estimate for restoring the surfaces to their original state. The project is carried out by experienced plasterers, according to the traditional techniques of the Venetian school.
